New members
We currently have 400 juniors, and before applying you should consider whether your child would be better off playing local hockey in a smaller club (England Hockey recommends this for most players below the age of 14). With up to 50 players in some age groups it’s going to be tough to get in the first team at Isca! Many other Devon clubs have capacity to take players, for example Exe HC and East Devon HC (now Exeter HC) also offer training in Exeter, and there are many other clubs in the surrounding area.
Links to other clubs can be found here
At U14 the focus moves towards more competitive hockey. Everyone will have a chance to play matches, but there is selection for A and B team places, and we are aiming to produce teams which will be competitive in local, regional, and national competitions, so experience is necessary for participation. Beginners would be encouraged to join other local clubs or start with the younger age groups.
For older players, there may come a point when a smaller club may not be able to provide the best environment, or offer a high enough standard of competition. England Hockey’s Right Athlete, Right Environment RARE resource provides some guidance about the questions to ask and areas to consider.
