| Isca's Summer School 2010 | ||
We could not have asked for better weather this year for our annual Hockey Summer School at Exeter University.
114 children, between the ages of 7 and 14, attended over the 2 days, experiencing high quality coaching, skills challenges and fun festivals. On Tuesday, ex GB player, Calum Giles, inspired the coaching of the older players – showing his infamous drag flick skills. Throughout the 2 days, 7 ISCA coaches and 17 ISCA young leaders were involved in giving the children a fun, positive experience. Ending with presentations to the winning teams from the festivals plus prizes to individuals for various achievements.
14 goalkeepers received expert tuition from England Under 21 trialist, Lucy Dawkins, who was ably assisted by Caitlin Whytock. The keepers had 2 days of intensive training in the mornings followed by a chance to shine in the afternoon festivals.
Thanks must go to all who contributed to a very successful 2 days. |
| Skinner for England | ||
| Congratulations to Graham Skinner on being selected for England Masters Vintage O55's to play in the home internationals at Swansea on 19th/20th June. The fifteen man squad was named from a lengthy list of some 34 players who attended trials at Slough and Reading hockey clubs recently following the Divisional Championships in May. I am sure you will join me in wishing Graham the best of luck! |
| UK Festival of Sport | ||
| Isca was represented by 5 U13 boys at the UK Festival of Hockey in Nottingham during last weekend. They had trained during the previous 6 weeks with the West of England squad in preparation to play against other sides from the regions of the country and from Scotland, Ireland and Wales. Paddy Poustie played in goal, Luke Crocker striker, Matt Marsh midfield/striker, Harry Skinner midfield and Will Marsh captain and defender (see photo to the left). Three wins and a loss was enough to gain them a semi final place. The team performed with great skill, pattern and endeavour outplaying sides from Ireland and the South and only lost narrowly to a North West penalty corner. The semi final against a strong Scotland side was an excellent display of team work and individual brilliance. Matt and Luke badgered their tall defenders. Will marshalled his defence, picking off attackers with aplomb. Harry terrorised their right side with dinks and passes. Paddy made some fabulous saves, especially his sliding stick save which unfortunately fell kindly to an attacker just after. However, the opposition strength and size finally overcame the West 0-2. Scotland went on to win the tournament and the West outplayed North East to gain 3rd. Will Marsh and Harry Skinner were selected to join the UK Lions squad, following in Tom Poustie's footsteps last season. Congratulations to them both on a fantastic achievement and to the others for their exceptional performances. |

The Third team won the league three games ago and ended the season unbeaten with just one draw with inspirational leadership from Captain Ruth Weeks. | Isca grab the silverware again | ||
Isca won the Devon Cup yesterday beating PGSOB in a hard fought but ultimately dominant display by the Exeter side. An early goal by James Bainbridge set Isca on their way but then overconfidence set in and PGSOB responded with vigour equalising shortly after. An excellent goal from Bainbridge put Isca back in front as Isca stepped up the pace and in the second half Isca's greater experience came through and we ran out comfortable winners 4-1 in the end with two further goals from Jamie Cooke.
In the Devon Vets Cup Final, Isca also prevailed winning comfortably to take the cup 4-2 to add to their National Knockout win last week.
In the Devon Trophy Isca B were narrowly defeated by Hornets 4-3. |
